The playground has been a popular gathering space for Loring Greenway neighbors and children from surrounding schools since 1975. The City of Minneapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) dismantled the playground without a plan for its replacement on November 12, 2024 citing safety concerns.
On January 30, 2025, the Loring Greenway Association (LGA) hosted a community meeting for concerned citizens to voice to their opinions about the playground to DPW representatives and Minneapolis City Council Member Katie Cashman. At a second community meeting held March 18, 2025, Midwest Playscapes landscape architect Tim Solomonson introduced three proposed ADA compliant playground concepts.
